How to call it

Say the fact and write it on the board: seven times eight. Cross off the product on the caller sheet. Several products have more than one fact, so 24 can come from 3 x 8 or 4 x 6. That is worth a pause: ask the class which other fact would have marked the same square.

One table at a time

To drill a single table, edit the words in the form to that table's products and choose a 3x3 card. The 7 times table from 7 x 2 to 7 x 10 gives 9 products, one more than a 3x3 card with a free space needs. For two tables at once, such as 6 and 8, use a 4x4 card.

Focus on the hard facts

Most classes know the 2, 5 and 10 tables early and stall on facts like 6 x 7, 7 x 8 and 8 x 9. Call those twice as often, or make a set of only the products students still miss and play it for a few minutes each day. Square numbers (4, 9, 16 up to 100) make a good short set too.

Division bingo

The same idea works backwards. Make a number set from 2 to 10 on a 3x3 card in the form and call division facts such as 56 ÷ 8. With only nine numbers the cards overlap a lot, so play for a single line and keep rounds short.

Questions

Which times tables are on the cards?

Every product of the 2 to 10 tables, each one once. Products of 1 and of 11 and 12 are left out; add them in the form if your class learns them.

What do I do when two facts give the same answer?

Either fact marks the same square. The table lists all of them, so you can call 4 x 6 one week and 3 x 8 the next.

How do I make 11 and 12 times tables bingo?

Add the extra products, such as 110, 121 and 144, to the words in the form. A 5x5 card picks 24 of them at random, so every card stays different.

Can students use a multiplication chart?

For a first game it helps slower students join in. Take it away once the class is fast, so the game measures recall.
