Blank bingo card

5x5 bingo card template

The standard bingo grid: 25 squares with a free space in the middle, so 24 to fill. This version has no B-I-N-G-O letters, which suits word games; for numbers use the lettered card. To skip the handwriting, the generator fills the squares from your list.

Why 5x5 is the standard

Five rows, five columns and two diagonals give twelve lines to win on, and the free space means every line through the middle needs only four marks. A game lasts long enough to build some tension but not so long that people drift off.

How many words you need

24 squares take 24 words. With only 24, every card holds the same set and the first win comes late for everyone at once. A list of 35 to 50 makes cards that really differ, so wins arrive one by one.

Good uses

Vocabulary review, sight words, Spanish words, a baby shower, a movie night, a road trip or a human bingo mixer where each square is a fact about someone in the room.

Patterns to try

Beyond a straight line, 5x5 is the card for patterns: X, plus, frame, letter T or L, four corners and blackout. Announce the pattern before the first call so everyone knows what to look for.

Questions

How many squares are on a 5x5 bingo card?

25, in five rows of five. The centre is usually a free space, which leaves 24 squares to fill.

How many words do I need for a 5x5 bingo card?

At least 24 with a free space, 25 without. A list of 35 to 50 gives cards that differ enough for a fair game.

Where is the free space on a 5x5 bingo card?

In the centre square: third row, third column. It counts as marked from the start.

Can I get a 5x5 bingo board without the free space?

Yes. In the generator on the home page pick 5x5 and turn the free space off; the card then takes 25 words.

What is the difference between this and the B-I-N-G-O card?

The grid is the same. The lettered card is meant for numbers, one range per column; this one has no letters, so any word can go in any square.
