How a 90-ball ticket works

A ticket has three rows and nine columns. Each row holds five numbers and four blanks, so a ticket has 15 numbers. The columns split the range: the first holds 1 to 9, the second 10 to 19, and so on up to the last, which holds 80 to 90. Numbers in a column run smallest at the top.

Why tickets come in strips of six

Six tickets make a strip with 90 numbers between them, each number from 1 to 90 exactly once. A player with a full strip marks something on every call. The tickets here are dealt the same way, so you can hand out single tickets or keep each strip of six together.

The three wins

A game usually pays three prizes in order. One line: any full row of five. Two lines: any two rows on the same ticket. Full house: all 15 numbers. After each win the game carries on to the next prize without clearing the tickets. Tambola players often add extras such as early five (the first five numbers anywhere) or corners.

Calling the numbers

Halls call each number with a traditional nickname, such as "legs eleven" for 11 or "two little ducks" for 22. All 90 are on the bingo calls page with where they come from. The online caller can say them aloud, and the number generator draws 1 to 90 without repeats.

Checking a claim

Each ticket has a number. When a player claims a line, two lines or a full house, enter the ticket number in the winner check with the calls so far, and it reports which of the three wins the ticket has.

Questions

How many numbers are on a 90-ball bingo ticket?

15. A ticket has 3 rows of 9 squares, and each row has 5 numbers and 4 blanks.

What is the difference between tambola and housie?

None in the rules. Tambola and housie are the names used in India for the same 90-ball game played in Britain, with the same tickets.

What is a full house in bingo?

All 15 numbers on one ticket marked. It is the last and biggest win in a 90-ball game, after one line and two lines.

Why are bingo tickets in strips of six?

Six tickets hold 90 numbers between them, so a strip contains every number from 1 to 90 exactly once and a player with a strip marks a number on every call.

What is the difference between 75-ball and 90-ball bingo?

75-ball bingo, common in the US, uses a 5x5 card with 24 numbers and a free space and is played to patterns. 90-ball bingo, common in the UK and India, uses 3x9 tickets with 15 numbers and pays for one line, two lines and a full house.
